Red Leaves

Red Leaves is a dark pop indie rock band from Austin, Texas. Being compared to everyone from The Cure to Explosions in the Sky, Red Leaves brings to the table a sharp post-punk attitude while utilizing a more accessible pop structure with distinct melodies, unexpected rhythms, and compelling lyrics & vocals awash in distortion.

The band formed in 2004 in Austin. Band founders David Lujan and Singer Mayberry were living in a small one bedroom apartment when they started collaborating on home recordings. Both were finishing up their bachelor’s degrees from The University of Texas; Mayberry was studying Classical Guitar and Music History, while Lujan was a Studio Art Major.

The band really got going in 2006, and since then they have self-released three EPs and one Full Length Album, as well as toured the Southwest and West Coast four times. In 2007 they were invited to play on line-ups at national festivals with Wutang Clan & Everclear at The Santa Fe Muzik Fest in, and The North vs. South Festival in Kansas.

For most of its duration the band was a trio. David Lujan has always been the lead vocalist and guitarist, while Singer Mayberry played Bass, Keys, Guitar, and sang backup on many songs. Being a trio, with six different drummers throughout the band’s duration, in 2009 with a new drummer Dorian Colbert (ex. Member of Lomita), the band added a fourth member, David’s brother Marcos Lujan as 2nd bass player.

With their most recent release in November of 2009 of EP “Trouble in the City of Water”, the band plans on a Texas tour late Spring of 2010, and have plans to record a fourth EP by the summer.
